Timber is a natural product which creates an comfortable and attractive deck. Dundonnell Timber decking is made from softwood that has been industrially pressure treated at the mill. Softwood decking tends to be less costly and easier to work with than hardwood. Properly designed and constructed a pressure treated softwood deck will last for 25 years or more, and perform as well as a hardwood product. Dundonnell Timbers decking boards are thicker than normally available and produce a much more substantial decking.

The timber decking boards come in two widths and are grooved on one side. The grooved boards are designed to facilitate rapid drainage. The edges are machine chamfered to aid drainage and to prevent damage if the boards move once positioned. A gap of between 6mm and 10mm should be left between the boards to allow for the natural movement of the wood over the seasons as well as aiding drainage and ventilation of the structure.

To avoid any deck becoming slippery it needs to be kept clean. Careful design and the use of grooved boards will help as the deck will drain more efficiently. See the Timber Decking Association for more detailed information
